Operation Cyanide: How the Bombing of the USS Liberty Nearly Caused World War Three, by Peter Hounam

The USS Liberty was attacked by unmarked planes and torpedo boats in international waters during the Six Day War between Israel and the Arab States. The attack on the surveillance ship lasted 75 minutes -- 34 men died and 172 were injured. Initially it was thought that either Egypt or the U.S.S.R. was responsible, but astonishingly Israel, the U.S.'s closest ally, said that the planes and boats belonged to them, and that they mistook the ship for an Egyptian vessel -- despite the prominently displayed Stars and Stripes. This hard-hitting investigation shows that on that day in 1967, the world came closer to all-out nuclear war than ever before -- this incident made the Cuban Missile Crisis seem tame by comparison. Peter Hounam reveals that the attack was part of a clandestine plan between the US and Israel known as "Operation Cyanide," designed to ensure victory for Israel in the Middle East. By blaming the attack on the Arab world, retaliation on a grand scale would be justified. A massive cover-up has endured to this day -- the attack on the Liberty remains the only maritime incident that has not been investigated by Congress. But many survivors and senior government officials say that the attack was no accident, including Secretary of State at the time, Dean Rusk. Based on interviews with ex-government officers and the examination of official documents, this book answers the following questions: Why did the White House call back rescue planes from helping the Liberty -- twice? What was the CIA's role in this attack? Did LBJ know in advance about the attack? Why did the U.S. government accept Israel's explanation? This book will shock any reader interested in Middle-East affairs, as it shows that the U.S. was prepared to -sacrifice its men and risk nuclear war to ensure victory for Israel.

I have read several books on the topic, including Jim Ennes' Assault On The Liberty. I saw Ennes speak once, and knew this was a deliberate attack done for political reasons (a false flag trying to force a U.S. attack on Egypt). I have just begun to read this account, which promises to cast more light on the subject. It seems this was as much a political move by the failed Johnson Presidency as it was a cold blooded assault by Israel. As on 9-11, our military stood down during the attack. I hope to learn just how bad that aspect of the event really was.

According to Karl Liebknecht (1871-1919) the real purpose of war is to "Subordinate the mass of ones own domestic population to exploitation at the hands of the dominant class."If we accept this as true, then can we reason forward from the known facts as to what may have been the real reason for the attempt to sink the USS Liberty?Fighter planes were dispatched from an aircraft carrier in the gulf, armed with nuclear bombs headed for Cairo to drop them. Because the Liberty did not sink, they were recalled. In the light of Peter Hounams excellent book, can we not surmise that the sinking of the USS Liberty was a planned triggering event that would lead to a much wider war?Frontlet 615 was the cover name for the project that involved the sinking of the USS Liberty and events to follow. Could that indicate something happening on June 15? 6-15? The attack on the Liberty was 6-8.Many have wondered "How close did we come to world war III when the Liberty was attacked?" Would it be too far out of line to consider that that was the very plan from the beginning, to bring us into world war III?Do we note the series of miracles that prevented the USS Liberty from sinking? 5 torpedoes shot at it with only one striking, the others going below and passing by? The 1 that did hit, luckily hit a reinforced stanchion. A few inches in either direction and the Liberty may have gone down. Miracle? How lucky was it that earlier 1 antenna was malfunctioning; It was in shut down and cooled off, thereby avoiding a heat seeking missile when the attack began? The USS Liberty was able to promptly tell the world of the attack upon them. How lucky was that?Several thousands of rounds of armor piercing ammunition and not one penetrated the boilers. How miraculous was that? From previous review:"As a God fearing man I have no doubt what so ever that the USS Liberty was kept afloat by the Hand of God. So what does that tell you about the people who attacked her? It should tell you loads."If Karl Liebknecht was right in his estimation of war as a tool of the dominant class to subordinate the mass of the ordinary people, then why has this nation built tens of thousands of nuclear weapons?Could it be anything other than the hand of God that has held us in? Less than a couple thousand well placed nuclear weapons would remove the mass of the people from the face of the earth.150,000 have been built since 1945. What other than the hand of God could explain why we are still here?Operation Cyanide-Why the Bombing of the USS Liberty nearly caused World War III is a must read for those seeking understanding of the nuclear armed world we live in.

this book should be read by every freedom loving American. Then wonder, what's going on, and who's running the show with their finger on the button, in this case. The other would have been a trigger.

When one starts studying the attack on the USS Liberty, some facts start to become clear very quickly. #1 Israel deliberately and intentionally attacked, tried to sink a ship they absolutely knew was an American ship. #2 There is absolutely NO WAY Israel would have done this without not just the express approval of the head of the American state, but upon the ORDERS of Lyndon Johnson and in conjuction with the US military and CIA. Simple. And very disturbing and revolting to think that our leaders could be so depraved. Lyndon Johnson, personally, was a quite evil and depraved man and I not think I am stretching things by calling him an American "Hitler" which is ironic because LBJ was so totally and completely pro-Israel. Google "LBJ-CIA Assassination of JFK" and you will learn still more about his textbook psychopath. This is an excellent book and I highly recommend it. The author starts off in the introduction with the story of former Air Force pilot Jim Nanjo who flew a nuclear loaded B-52 for the Strategic Air Command. On June 8th, between 2 and 4 AM California Pacific time, Jim Nanjo and his bomber group were awakened by an alarm and where in their planes within 3 minutes. The USS Liberty was attacked at 5AM California Pacific time. Did you catch that? The US nuclear bomber plans were scrambled in a massive alert 1-3 hours BEFORE the international incident attack on the USS Liberty by Israel. That should tell you WE, the USA were expecting an attack and most likely Lyndon Johnson was in on the nefarious plot. So it looks like LBJ told the Israelis go ahead and sink the USS Liberty (miraculously it did not sink) and that will give us a pretext to enter the Six Day War on Israel's side, launch an invasion of Egypt and depose Nassar who the USA did not like and who was too cozy with the USSR. In other words, LBJ was cooking up a Gulf of Tonkin type incident to justify a criminal Middle East war, based on a US sponsored false flag attack. The USS Liberty never sank, although many were murdered by Lyndon Johnson, the US national security state & Israel. And the US did not launch a military attack to bomb Egypt and depose Nassar. This could have triggered WWIII! Google "Operattion Northwoods Spartacus" and read about all the false flag attacks that the JCS proposed to Kennedy as a way of getting rid of Castro. Then read up on the JFK assassination. Then study the Gulf of Tonkin incident and the Gulf of Tonkin resolution that was written by the Bundy brothers. Question: do you like the truth, even if it is the ugly truth? Or do you like a comfortable lie? Here is an email from Maria to Barry Chamish re: the USS Liberty attack:"June 8, 1967 during the 6 day war between Israel and the Arab Nations President Lyndon B. Johnson sends the U.S.S liberty to collect electronic intelligence in the eastern Mediterranean. The clearly marked U.S. ship was 14 miles off the coast of Israel in international waters. Israel's aircraft identified the ship as an American vessel and an ally. At 2:00 PM that afternoon the U.S.S. Liberty was attacked by two unmarked Mirage 3 fighter bombers The U.S.S. Liberty was then attacked by three Israeli torpedo boats bearing Israeli flags. The torpedo boats opened fire with high caliber machine guns and launched torpedos. The torpedo boats then began strafing life-rafts in the water, an international war crime. During the attack the U.S.S. Liberty continually called the 6th fleet which was nearby begging for air support. Two groups of fighter aircraft were sent to defend the Liberty but unbelievably they were recalled by the White House. The Admiral in Command of the sixth fleet called Washington to confirm the recall order. Secretary of Defence MacNamara came on the line followed by the president himself who told the Admiral, "I want that G D Ship going to the bottom" Finally after 3 hours into the attack a Russian spy ship appeared so the Israelis withdrew because there were witnesses allowing the Liberty to limp home to safety. Here is what really took place. President Johnson had personal control over the ship, made a backroom deal with Israel to attack it with an order to kill everyone on board. Then the attack was to be blamed on Egypt and U.S. would enter the war and take over the entire Middle East." I like the truth. Read this book - it has a lot of evidence that points to the attack on the USS Libety being yet another nefarious crime by Lyndon Johnson and the American national security state. And these guys were supposed to protect us!!McGeorge Bundy comparing LBJ to Joseph Stalin in 1971January 15 1971Last night I spoke at the annual dinner of the Century. I sat next to Mac Bundy and we discussed, among other things, the Khrushchev memoirs. I remarked on the curious resemblance between Khrushchev's account of the life around Stalin - the domineering and obsessive dictator, the total boredom of the social occasions revolving around him, the horror when invited to attend and the even greater horror when not invited - and Albert Speer's account of the life around Hitler. Mac said, "When I read Khrushchev, I was reminded of something else in addition - my last days in the White House with LBJ."[Schlesinger, Journals, p. 333]

This is an amazing book by a hardworking BBC researcher. It tells the all important story of why Israel attacked the Liberty. The story of LBJ ordering atomic bombs to be dropped on Egypt is frightening. Read it.

Apparently the best book ever written on the subject. I strongly recommend it!

Great book that updated a long existing Government cover up.

Being a survivior of the USS Liberty attack, this book brings a hole new insight to the 6-day Israel war.
